The Highland Line. . . . . .

The Highland Main Line through the village of Blair Atholl first opened for traffic on the 9th of September 1863.

The story starts however in 1860 when the prospectus for the Inverness to Perth railway was issued under the title of "The Inverness & Perth Junction Railway" The bill was approved by parliament on the 8th of March 1861 and the contract to build the section through Blair was awarded to Alexander Wilson & Sons on the 17th January 1862

Blair Atholl station, erected in 1869 as part of an agreement with the Duke of Atholl, was one of the few original buildings to be constructed in stone.
